Bladder and bowel dysfunction in the pre and post natal periods

Tue 23, Sep 2014

This education module has been developed by the Continence Foundation in partnership with ThinkGP, Australia’s largest provider of online education to GP’s (and other health professionals), and builds on the very successful CFA maternity special project launched during World Continence Week 2014.

By completing this learning activity, participants will be able to:

    • Identify risk factors for incontinence that should be considered when assessing pre and postnatal women.
    • Understand the importance of pro-actively assessing pre and postnatal women for bladder and bowel dysfunction.
    • Understand when and how to involve a continence nurse or physiotherapist in the care of a woman with bladder or bowel dysfunction.
    • Identify common pelvic floor conditions that may benefit from referral to a continence nurse or physiotherapist and the evidence to support conservative interventions for incontinence.
    • Identify what supports are available to patients in terms of education and other information about continence.
