Evidence based practice and translation into practice of research best practice for management of incontinence, pelvic floor dysfunction and pelvic pain education of consumer, public and health professionals in the assessment and management of all things pelvic floor and continence.

Areas of expertise as relates to the Continence Foundation of Australia

25 years experience as Pelvic Health Physiotherapist, of which 16 years in the public sector with ACT Health and 8 years in the private sector. 15 years experience teaching at tertiary level 25 years teaching public and professional groups 1 hour lectures to 4 day workshops on continence 33 years as a physiotherapist.

Reasons for nomination

Having been a member of the Foundation since I developed an interest in continence in the late 1990s, I have greatly benefited from its support, education, and mentoring programs. I am now eager to contribute to the Foundation in a more impactful way. The CFA's focus on education and research aligns closely with my professional passions. Serving on the board would allow me to enhance the quality of life for individuals dealing with incontinence by advocating for improved resources, education, and support. My expertise in research and its practical applications could offer valuable insights to the board. This role would also provide me with the opportunity to actively shape policies and initiatives, thereby making a meaningful difference in the field.

Previous contributions to the Continence Foundation of Australia

ACT Branch president from 2002 till merger with NSW. Various committees and standards advisory groups. Writing, editing, advising handouts and other material. Attendance at (nearly all) NCOI since 2000, presenting,chairing sessions, running workshops, and generally learning a lot Running workshops, masterclasses, seminars and other educational events for both public and health professionals. Physio SIG member for 23 years.

Statement – how can you contribute to the strategic direction of the Continence Foundation of Australia

As a dedicated advocate for improving quality of life and health outcomes, I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to the strategic direction of the Continence Foundation of Australia. My skills and experience align closely with the Foundation's mission to advance research, provide education, and promote awareness about continence issues. 

I bring a strong background in health care management and research, which equips me with the expertise to drive strategic initiatives and enhance organizational impact. My experience in clinical care and translation of research into practice allows me to offer valuable insights and innovative solutions to address current challenges and identify new opportunities for growth. 

By leveraging my clinical experience, communication and research skills, I aim to contribute to the foundation’s goals by: 

1. Strengthening Community Outreach and Education: Developing and implementing targeted programs to raise awareness and educate the public and health professionals about continence health, thereby increasing engagement and support from diverse communities. I would like to see formal support for rural and remote communities and professionals developed so they do not miss out on the care they need. 

2. Enhancing Research and Evidence-Based Practices: Supporting the Foundation’s research initiatives to advance understanding and treatment of continence issues, ensuring that our strategies are grounded in the latest evidence and best practices. 

3. Building Strategic Partnerships: Forging and nurturing relationships with key stakeholders, including healthcare providers, policymakers, and community organizations, to enhance collaboration and amplify the foundation’s impact. My commitment to advancing continence health and my proactive approach to problem-solving position me well to contribute meaningfully to the Continence Foundation of Australia's strategic direction. I am eager to bring my passion and skills to the team and work together to drive positive change and achieve our shared vision.
