Welcome to the Spring edition of Bridge Magazine, which is focused on women’s health. Evidence has shown being a woman is one of the biggest risk factors for experiencing incontinence, so women’s health is a central part of what we do here at the Continence Foundation of Australia.
In this issue, specialist physiotherapist Libby Oldfield speaks about getting to know your body and signs that you might be experiencing problems with your pelvic floor. We also meet two women who have lived experience of incontinence and how they now use their personal experience to educate other women and advocate for women’s health issues.
Our fourth article focuses on the topic of menopause. We talk to Sarah White, CEO of Jean Hailes for Women’s Health, about removing stigma around menopause and normalising the menopausal transition, as well as encouraging women to reach out for help from medical professionals to treat their symptoms.
Not sure where to turn to for help with your continence questions? Our National Continence Helpline is a free and confidential service staffed by Nurse Continence Specialists who offer information, advice and support. They also provide a wide range of continence-related resources and referrals to local services (call 1800 33 00 66, Mon-Fri 8am-8pm AEST).
I am delighted to have joined the Continence Foundation of Australia as CEO earlier this year, and we have some exciting changes happening within the Foundation which will help us further improve the lives of people living with incontinence and their families and carers.
