A Radio National program hosted by Natasha Mitchell earlier this week brought the issue of bedwetting among adolescents into the open.

The Health Matters segment, which was aired on Wednesday, August 6, featured enuresis nurse June Jenion, a former consultant with the Continence Foundation of Australia. Follow here to listen to the interview by downloading the podcast or listening online.

The problem faced by young adults affected by bedwetting is one the Continence Foundation of Australia has long been aware of, with an article published in the last edition of Bridge highlighting the issue. The article looks at the work of nurse and researcher Glenice Wilson, who is awaiting publication of her qualitative study into the “lived experience” of young adults with nigh time bedwetting..

The most challenging issue for many young people and their parents however, is bringing the issue to light.  Young people affected by bedwetting overwhelmingly hide the problem, living unnecessarily with the consequences that can so easily be treated.
